There are many aspects of buying a home, some fun - others, not so much.  Beside all the paperwork and running around, many of us enjoy the hunt of finding their 'dream home'.  From house type to location, consider these helpful tips to guarantee many years of happiness for you and your family in your new home:

1. Neighborhood:  Decide where you want to live vs where you need to live.  By this I mean, you may want certain restaurants/shops near you but may need a certain location for work or school systems.
2. Square Footage:  What size home fits your needs?  Although its great to have a large spacious home, consider the extra costs to heat/furnish those rooms versus a smaller home giving you everything you need AND saving you $$!
3. Floor Plans:  Do you prefer a wide open layout or more confined/enclosed rooms?  Consider this when looking.  Certain layouts with appease certain living styles.
4. Decor & Finishes:  There are many homes that may look similar but certain finishes and decor can dramatically affect the home's price.  Take laminate floors for example.  Today you can get laminate floors that look like real wood and can barely tell the difference.  However, real wood is much more pricey.  Same goes for laminate counters vs granite etc.
5. Exterior:  Landscaping and pools are things to consider when buying as they can require a great deal of upkeep.  They may look beautiful but may also keep you busy all weekend in the summer.
